When I am examining and critiquing any weapon, I try to keep the aesthetic and the practicality separate and then at the end bring them together to give a final judgement (much like another Critique-ee has told you).

This is an all-around gorgeous weapon. It is ornate and beautiful, but at the same time retains it's simplicity and a certain practicality. The designs in the pommel and guard are nothing but stunning, and give an elegance to the weapon. The shape of the guard curving into the blade is very pleasing. But I think my favorite part of this weapon is it's Medieval, Crusade-esque feeling. It gives off a vibe that just makes me picture it in a painting of a great battle or something with biblical ties to it. The name you gave it, "Michael", even fits perfectly. The guard forms the symbol of the Templars, and is the thing that ties everything together.

When I first looked at this weapon my first impression was that it would not be too practical. But upon further examination, I've found it is quite the opposite. The pommel, hilt, and guard look sturdy enough to take some hits and withstand pressure. On the other hand, the handle would need something more. Left the way it is, every time you strike the blade against something (shields, armor, other swords, etc.) it would make your hand feel... unpleasant. It doesn't have enough protection. You would need to wrap it with some sort of material, leather being the obvious solution. It would give much more shock absorption. I also think that in order to maximize it's practicality, the blade would need to be a bit thicker. As far as maintaining the weapon, this is much more difficult. The etched designs in the pommel and guard would be VERY hard to clean, especially after being covered in dirt, blood, or other things that a battle would typically bring. The blade would have to be tempered properly and carefully. Failing to do so would result in it becoming too fragile, losing the weight on swings, and losing its decor in general.

All in all, this is an amazing blade that I would love to have sitting on my wall. It could be a little more practical, but in the end would have no problem in a fight. The design is amazing, and I love the symbolic nature of it. Good work.
