This looks pretty good. I like the model itself, and the detail you've put into the texture.
I have to pick on the variation of the scratches though. it looks like this thing has had a pretty rough time, due to its flaking and loss of paint, the steel is eroded a little, etc. But.. I see no wear and tear on any of the obvious places.
Around the front, and the sides, i would expect to see damage to the corners of the steel, especially along that front blue painted face at the bottom, I would expect to see some damage as if the wielder of this weapon has hit it against something, or smashed it into someones helmet, etc.
The laser firer itself looks pretty good, maybe some lengthy scratches along the canister, as if it's been drawn over and over, or laid down on its side when the character is doing something else like looking through a cabinet.
The grunge itself looks excellent, it definitely says "Warehouse/underground" to me, a sort of Alien shooter, or zombie shooter, maybe even something like Fallout 3. But the one thing that I noticed straight away was lack of wear and tear in the more obvious places.
Other than that, I would have to say this is a freakin' excellent weapon. It looks fantastic.
Brilliant modelling and it looks very realistic in design, as opposed to the stereotypical kind of shiny silver sci-fi laser guns. I really like it! I can't be the only person who really wants to own this as a prop?
on the other hand what is bad is that sign. I didnt know its well=known sign of popular game. I didnt played it so I wasnt familiar with it. I just found it on internet when I looked for !cool! material for making textures.
You are maybe 3th or 4th person claiming that. But you are wrong. I believe I can say I know dead space pretty well. Especially plasma cutter. I run that game 2 or 3 times. (fully upgraded plasma cutter is best gun in game IMO) Beside that I allready modelled plasma cutter in 3ds max (not posted here, yet). So I believe I know that piece. The shape is different. I really dont see and similar shape with plasma cutter. (There are not many bigger pictures of it on web but check it.). On the other hand I really like DS world I'm not hiding that and there are more pieces in my database here on deviantart where I try to imitate "look like from DS".
what i said wasn't a claim . it's a statement . the gun you made looks very very very much like [link] . that's a fact . not an opinion
i've always enjoyed seeing your works . there is no doubt at all that you are a great artist . but this model you have made that you say was conceptualized "by you" was actually based on an idea by someone else . saying that it was your original concept isn't correct . sure you altered it and added different details (seriously it's very good work) , but those alterations do not entitle you to say it was your concept . i do not intend to sound mean to you . i still think of you and your work very highly and i hope one day to be as good as you . i'm only saying that what you said was wrong
Problem is that you can not turn front of gun on this official version in way like we did in game. Therefore there are more people on i-net trying to make design of their own plasma cutter. Your example is one of them. But there are more versions with various turning mechanism. But if we take your example as reference I still see something different from mine.
If I wanted to accuse myself from copying I'd say that my concept is more similar to these ones:
because I think that my concept is much closer to these guns then plasma cutter. (I found them on deviantart right now. just write "Plasma gun" into search box. There are even more with similar look or principle.)
