Concept of sci-fi energy gun - HORNBILL
This model I did along my another model – ELAH ([link]) This both were designed as twins but never finish this one 100 percent until now. They are similar except major line. Concept and realisation is mine. Program I used is 3ds max and rendering engine is vray. Material I made should be something between plastic and ceramic .
I did 2 pictures (resolution 1920x1080):

The first thing I should add is that this was featured on the front page of DA and caught my eye. This is a good indication of the originality of the piece.

Vision: I find the vision to be extremely creative and well built. There is a great amount of design and polish put in to this piece that is very much clear from the details. I like the fact that their are details in the model itself, including the sight, safety and instructions aong the side. There is a solid feel to the piece that gives it more weight and depth.

Originality: A science fiction weapon is fairly common but there is a certain level of real world mechanics that creates a much more believable piece rather than a polished weapon with no resemblence to a practical weapon. As mentioned with the Vision category, there are details on there that I would not expect in a science fiction weapon but work very well. The functional aspects of a rail, right and saftey show a better concept of mechanics for a functional weapon.
Technique: It is clear that you used the program to the maximum potential, especially for the reflective shading and texturing to the piece that gives a much more real world field. I also appreciate the multiple angles that you show throughout the piece is still an interesting detail to it.
Impact: I belive this piece has a great deal of impact to the 3d design, as it incoporates both real world and and futuristic details that add a level of belivability to the weapon without sacrificing the artistic lines and smooth feel.

Very interesting concept. I've always had a liking for SF technology designs, and this one in particular looks seriously solid between your overall rendering and the fluid design. Everything looks fully functional, from the energy cell insert in the bottom of the handle to the settings toggle. However, a couple of points do stand out to me that could be improved upon.

First and foremost, the shape of the gun, while excellently fluid and expressive, seems somewhat unwieldy. The handle is, for lack of a better word, bulky - which is a surprise, considering its curvy profile. Unless those upper and lower grip areas are made of some kind of compression foam, I don't see this being very easy to hold in a comfortable aiming position unless your hands are the size of the average pineapple. Either your fingers would have to extend around the undergrip the long way, thus loosening your hold, or the whole hand would have to close around the lower section, making the trigger hard to reach. It also seems as though the handle's curves would make it more difficult to insert the energy cells, unless they're a lot smaller than the image makes them seem.

I also feel as though the display template is a bit overcrowded, with too much visual noise for a design that's so sleek and simple - it almost distracts the eye. However, these are minor complaints, and from a purely stylistic standpoint, this concept is brilliant.

Overall, I'd say this piece is well worth looking at, with a stylish overall concept, solid presentation, and simply beautiful rendering; I just don't know if I'd want to try and hold one in an actual firefight.

This is how sci-fi guns should look: stylish but not ostentatious. Great job.

Okay, whoa! Where the hell did this genius piece of sci-fi mechanical design come from? Totally floored!

I see a lot of sci-fi art online, in movies and books and this is head and shoulders above most of what I see. This is something different...it has that edge, the x-factor we're always looking for when we want to see something truly innovative. I sure hope you are working in the industry, because I want this made into a prop for a (genuinely good) sci-fi movie/tv series so it can become popular and they can sell replicas to adoring fans like me. BRAVO!
