CAMULUS - Concept of fantasy sword

Idea at the beginning has been to create both hand sword witch medieval age breathe again no armored  but very quick enemies.  Cold steel partner for night witch hunt in the country side. Right tool for situation when its swinging  keep the witch in the distance before final moment. Darkness is falling, so lets go outside.

When you checked real both hand swords on net then it could be surprise as simple they are. That long blades is really respectful. And  videos on youtube, showing them in action, answer question how much powerful they are.

To model it is no difficult and when you are practiced then to create highpoly  3d object of it takes around 2 hours.  On the other hand, simplicity of model does not help to bring realism in rendering output. Eyes have no much to be cought so there has to be made some work on surface in order to make it more interesting. I followed same path. Model did quickly and I was focused only on engraving of centre part above cross guard.  I paid  attentions to look it like it is man-hand made, hoping it looks like that.

All around as usual. All work - idea, modeling, rendering -  is mine. I did job in 3dsmax,zbrush, photoshop. Rendering engine is Vray.

I made 2 pictures:

1. CAMULUS main -    peterku.deviantart.com/art/Cam…

2. CAMULUS secondary -     peterku.deviantart.com/art/Cam…

(Pictures are big. Their resolution is 2750x2500. I did them huge to show details of engraving. I recommend to open them in original size to bring details into the light.)

So what do you thing. Do you like it or not? Tnx for comments if any. Bye.

this is very awesome. most of the european swords that you've designed so far have been kinda dubious in their practicality. this one however i would love to have. it looks awesome and practical.

Haha, I didn't realize that it was you! Either way, great work! How few poly's is displace still effective on? I've been using bump maps and not displacement but if I'm turbo-smoothing, I might as well. I never thought of that! I pretty much leave displacement maps alone. I also, like the granite background and the diffuse textures too. I wish I was that good!

Fantasy sword?

That weapon not only looks to be perfectly serviceable, it also wouldn't be a source of embarrassment in the field (or sparring in present times of course!).

I see so many works where in the name of "style" an artist comes up with an unworkable, unrealistic, and undoubtedly unwieldy blade.  That's a "fantasy" blade to me -- the kind that would guarantee the only the user would get cut down!

You, on the other hand, have avoided those pitfalls while *still* beating the competition on style.

Kudos.  You kicked ass.

I want one.  Bad.

Instant Favorite.

amazing work, a beautiful blade ! the only thing that seems 'wrong' is that it looks very highly machined rather than hand-worked,  especially around the guard, but it would be just right for a 21st century hero.

now I realize that handle really looked like machined. it coused I did probably too much sci-fi staff before :)

The metal ring on the handle is rather out of place. I'd like to see it just all the same leather(?) grip. Other than than, it's a superb piece. Bring it to a blacksmith!

Tnx mate. that rings shoud be there. it divide handle into 2 separate area for both hand and when you hold it by one hand then it keep your hand at the place not alowing to slide hand down.
